Cards for a Cause (CFAC) – Usborne Books & More Fundraising

Cards for a Cause (CFAC) is an amazing fundraising opportunity from Usborne Books & More. This training is for current Usborne Books & More consultants. If you are not a consultant and landed here from a web search, learn more about how to partner on a fundraiser.

What is Cards for a Cause?
Cards for a Cause (CFAC) is a cash-back fundraiser. It includes 30 individually-wrapped, beautifully embellished greeting cards in a super cute box. The boxes are sold for $30 + tax. There are four different themes of card boxes: All Occasion Box 1, All Occasion Box 2, Thanks & Blanks and Kids Birthday Box.

Who can benefit from Cards for a Cause?
Any nonprofit organization, charity, school, club, sports team or even a family in need. There’s a ton of flexibility! (Note: If a school or group associated with a school benefits from the fundraiser, make sure you’re an Educational Consultant.)

How much money does the organization make?
The organization keeps $13 on each box sold. That’s a 43% return to the cause!

How does shipping work on CFAC?
There is a 15 box minimum on each CFAC order. The boxes ship for free, but must be sent to just one location. This fundraiser works best for a local, community group rather than customers spread across the country. If you need to ship a single CFAC box, expect to pay $10 in additional shipping. Learn more about your shipping options.

How do I involve others in the fundraiser?
CFAC is set up with order forms. This works great for a club, team or group of volunteers or students to go out and take orders. Each helper can take an order form, collect card orders and then return their orders to you. I recommend having some sample cards on hand so show off the quality.

When is a good time to do a CFAC fundraiser?
Anytime is a great time to do a CFAC fundraiser! You receive $30 sales credit for each box sold so running a CFAC is great when working toward big sales goals like HOCs, promoting to Team Leader and earning the annual incentive trip.

How do I access the CFAC marketing materials?
Visit the UBAM Home Office Branding Group for the latest images of the card boxes and cards included. There are also flyers and order forms that you can use for your fundraiser.

How much money do I make on CFAC?
CFAC commission is 10% (or $3 per box). It does not count toward the 4% monthly bonus for sales over $1000. It does count toward earning HOCs, incentive trip points and promoting to team leader.

How do I place a CFAC order in OrderPro? How much do I pay?
Placing a CFAC order in OrderPro is easy. In step two, select “Cards for a Cause (prepaid by consultant)”. Again, you need 15 boxes to meet the minimum order. You’ll be charged $17 per box, plus tax. You will keep the extra $13 you’ve collected to provide to the cause. The other option is for UBAM to bill your organization. This process takes longer and would only be required if your cause is paying with a check written to UBAM.

What if my organization is tax-exempt?
You can upload their tax-exempt certificate in Step 1 in OrderPro. This only applies to nonprofit organizations in certain states. For example, in California sales tax is required even for 501c3 nonprofit organizations. Ask the charity that you are fundraising for if they are exempt from sales tax.

How do I order a sample CFAC box?
The next time you place an order in OrderPro, just add a sample box. Search for the title of the cards (like occasion or thanks) to easily find them. You’ll pay $30 for the sample box since the minimum order is 15 boxes for the fundraiser. Also, if another team member in your area is running a CFAC, you can always order from their fundraiser, too.

Becky’s Pro-Tip: While CFAC is designed as a cash-back fundraising option, you can “double dip” and still provide a cause books! Run a CFAC fundraiser, then take the $13 proceeds and use that toward a book fair fundraiser. You’ll receive the full $30 sales credit on each box sold, plus you’ll also get book fair commission and sales credit on the $13 raised. That’s $43 of sales credit for each box sold! 😉

Here is a short video about CFAC to learn more. Who can you think of that would benefit from a CFAC fundraiser?

Does the organization actually get cash at the end of the fundraiser, or do they just get credit to order books?

The organization can do either, get cash or order books. You would have to create a separate order to order the books for the fundraiser.

When working with a tax exempt org do the customers pay tax but the org does not?

    • Jenna

Hey Mindy! Great question. If the organization is tax exempt, there won’t be any taxes charged in your order. Charging taxes to the customers wouldn’t be necessary.

What are all of the dimensions for all of the boxes. I already know thr dimensions for the All Occasion 1 and 2 since they’re the same but can’t find the holiday or kids box dimensions. Would they be the same as the All Occasion? And weight please!

Hey Amanda- Some of the boxes just got updated including the birthday box and the thanks and blanks so I can’t tell you the exact dimensions of them all. The best thing to do would to ask your upline if they know!

Is there a way to set up a website link through Usboorne for CFAC fundraisers??

Unfortunately, there’s not an option to do so. My best recommendation is using Jot Form, Google Form or a PayPal checkout if you’re sharing a link to purchase or directing customers to a landing page on your personal website.

I am a new consultant and have one question. You said the boxes ship in groups of 15. my question is do all 15 boxes have to be the same kind or can the be mixed and matched All Thanks and Blanks or All 15 Kids birthday, or can I have 3 kids birthday and 3 thanks and blanks etc to make up the 15 boxes?

    • Becky

You can mix and match any of the boxes!! 🙂 Have fun!

Can a person just buy one or two boxes without belonging to a fundraising group? If so, how much would the boxes cost? Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

Hi Lynne! Yes, they are in OrderPro for $30. This is a great way to have a sample box on hand to show those interested in fundraising how great the cards are. 🙂

Hi Becky! CFAC’s have scared me for awhile (not exactly sure why) and your video helped to lay some things out for me, but I’m curious … I have someone from back home (Texas) that is interested in a fundraiser event (I would need to start like end of June already), but I live in Colorado … would she take down orders and PayPal me that money so that I can order them all and have them sent to her? How would that work to go about them placing the order and me getting the money?

How does that work paying Usborne the $17 and giving the woman the $13 for every box sold? I just overthink and complicate things so much on my own, but I actually have someone wanting a fundraiser and this is my chance to overcome my odd fear around CFAC, but help her raise $ for her grandson’s third surgery (he’s only 3)!!! Thank you so much!

Hi Brittany! CFAC is great – not scary! Let me see if I can clarify — the total box is $30 so say your fundraising lady sells 15 boxes and collections $30 per box ($450 total). When you go to process the order in OrderPro, you only need to pay $17 per box + tax. That works out to be $255. She would keep the difference for her grandson’s surgery fundraiser — about $195. Then, you would ship the boxes to her directly. Hope that helps! Good luck with the fundraiser!

If I am wanting to do CFAC for a family in need (but the family is not local), how would I go about this since the cards are shipped to one address? Would I take orders, and invoice them – and once I receive payment, ship them to a family member (of the family in need)?

Hi Beth! Yes, that’s exactly what I would do. The boxes are heavy and big to ship so make sure you look into shipping costs. I had mailed 2 boxes for nearly $20 one time and wanted to cry! Ha! If you have someone local to an area and can group the orders into 15 boxes at a time, it would be great to have someone local to help distribute the cards when they arrive.

Hi! Do you have to be an ESR to do a CFAC for a school organization like drama club/band/etc.? Thanks!

Hi Stephanie! Yes. For anything to do with a school, you need to be an ESR!

I’m a newer UBAM Consultant running CFAC currently I was wondering about your pro-tip, namely how exactly you input that in orderpro. Do you input the whole order under a book fair fundraiser to double dip?

    Reply
    • Becky

Hi Danielle – You’d actually do two orders. I’d place the CFAC order first. Then, you’d use the proceeds from the CFAC order when placing the book fair order. 🙂

Hi, Becky! Do you have a short training on how to do this double dip? I’m a newbie, and kind of having a hard time understanding

        Reply
        • Becky

Hi Ale! No, I don’t but I’m happy to elaborate more. For each box of cards we sell, we get $13 cash back towards your organization for your fundraiser You can take that $13 on each box and put that in as a book fair or party order to purchase boxes for an organization. That means you are getting $30 sales credit on the box sold and an additional $13 sales credit on the book order. Hope this helps!

Hi Becky, I’m also a new consultant and need some further clarification. So instead of giving the organization back the $13 they make per box, they give you the okay to use their profits to purchase books for a book fair benefiting their organization or purchasing additional CFAC boxes to sell?

          • Becky

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to UBAM! Yes, you are correct. 🙂

        • Sally Andrews

Do you know the approximate size and weight of the boxes? I want to be able to figure out shipping costs before I offer that as an option.

          • Jeremy Launder

            Hey Sally – The All-Occasion Cards for a Cause box we have measures 9.5″ x 7.5″ x 4.75″ and weighs 2 lb 7 oz.

I was wondering if there are any blank cards in the all occasions boxes?

    Reply

Hi Jessica! If you’re looking for Blanks, I would select the Thanks & Blanks cards. There might be a few blanks in the All Occassions box, but most will be themed. Hope that helps! -Becky

This sounds easy but might be difficult since Hallmark just came out with this same idea at Christmas. With getting started, I probably will give myself time to get into my business a bit before I try this, meanwhile I can put out some feelers. It does sound like a great opportunity for an Organization.

How do I start? How do I find someone to benefit from this?

    • Becky

Hi there! I would start by thinking about what causes you are most passionate about! Would you like to help your child’s school? Your church? A family in your community in need? A club that needs to raise funds? Once you’ve decided what cause you’d like to support, I would reach out to them to see if they would like to partner with you on a Cards for a Cause fundraiser? If you’re personally connected to the mission, you will be much more likely to support the fundraising efforts and get some buy in from the organization. 🙂
