let’s be real.  we can’t do it all.

I’ve tried a lot of tools and systems to streamline my business and focus on what matters most to me – time with my family. Here are a few of my most trusted resources and what I love about them. In full disclosure, some of these are affiliate links, which means that if you make a purchase, I’ll earn a commission at no additional expense to you.  I recommend these companies and products because they are useful and helpful in my business, not because of the small commissions I earn if you decide to buy.  I either currently use these products or have used them in the past.

our most used tools

Email marketing has been a huge part of what’s made my direct sales businesses successful.  Especially as social media becomes more cluttered and algorithms change it is hard to be seen and heard on Facebook and Instagram.  We still find email to be the most effective way to communicate with customers when not in-person or on the phone.  ConvertKit is the software we use to send our automated email sequences and broadcast messages to customers.  Use our referral link to get a 14-day free trial!

Since your in the business of selling you’re going to need to accept credit card payments and send invioces.  We use Square on a daily basis for this.  They have an easy-to-use Point of Sale application for Android and iOS devices and they’ll give you a card reader for free.  Use our referral link and you can also get $1000 of free credit card processing!

Live streaming is a big part of direct sales.  Whether it is showing off your product to customers in a virtual Facebook party or running a training for you team you probably go live a couple times a week.  BeLive makes live streaming extremely easy.  It also lets you share your screen during a broadcast, bring additional guests on to your stream and record your stream for viewing afterward.  Click here to get a free 14-day trial.

managing business finances

As a business owner it is important to keep track of your finances, income and expenses so you can understand how much profit you are making, where you money is being spent and to be prepared for tax season.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS

To help you get organized we’ve created a simple spreadsheet that includes an Income and Expense worksheet and mileage tracker. This is the same spreadsheet we used when Becky started her direct sales business.  Download it for FREE!

As our business grew we moved to Quickbooks which is the industry standard when it comes to keeping track of business finances. It also comes with a handy mobile app where you can enter your expenses on the go and snap pictures of your receipts.  You our referral link to get 50% off your first 6 months!

To keep Uncle Sam off our backs, we are required as business owners to keep a vehicle mileage log if we want to take advantage of the mileage allowance for our business during tax time.  Triplog is the app we use for mileage tracking.  Use our referral link to get 20% off your first year!

email marketing

Email marketing is a tool we’ve used to grow Becky’s direct sales businesses, generate more sales and cultivate relationships with customers in the background on autopilot.  As social media becomes more crowded, loud and hard to be seen, it is more important than ever to communicate with your customers via email.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS

ConvertKit is the email marketing software we use and recommend.  It has a very intuitive and simple interface for setting up email sequences, sending broadcasts and creating automations.  Get a free 14-day trial using our referral link!

Group Leads is the #1 Facebook group lead generation chrome extension.  It allows you to convert new Facebook group members into leads in your email marketing software with just 1 click!  It integrates with ConvertKit, MailChimp and many other email service providers.  Get a free 7-day trial!

Prior to ConvertKit we used Mailchimp.  The user interface isn’t as easy to use and we found deliverability (how often our emails made it to a customer’s inbox versus the spam folder) worse with Mailchimp.  Mailchimp offers a free pricing tier so it is a great place to start if you are on a tight budget and can’t afford ConvertKit yet.

domain names and websites

Long gone are the days of only marketing your direct sales business in-person with pop-up shows in people’s living rooms.  Nowadays everyone is online so it is important to be able to connect with your customers where they are.  Modern Direct Sellers have an online presence and build their own personal brand within the overall corporate brand to standout and be remembered among the hundreds or thousands of other consultants selling the exact same thing.

Checkout the steps below to get started building your online presence:

step 1 – register a domain name

The first step to creating an online presence is to pick a domain name (or URL) and register it with a domain registrar.  For example, myconsultanttraining.com is the domain name for this site.  Stuck on what to pick?  Your name is always a good option (i.e. firstnamelastname.com)!

Use the form below to see if your domain name is available at Uniregistry!

step 2 – redirect to your site

After you have a domain name, you can start by simply re-directing it to your corporate provided shopping site.  Your new domain name will look professional on business cards and will be easier for people to remember when you tell them how to shop.

Checkout this training which walks you step-by-step through the process of redirecting your domain name: GET YOUR OWN WEB ADDRESS

step 3 – build your own website

When you are ready to take it to the next level you can point your domain name to a full blown website where customers can learn more about you and connect through a blog.

If you are already a little tech saavy or a DIYer check out this training which walks you step-by-step through the process of launching your own website: BUILD YOUR BUSINESS ONLINE WITH A WEBSITE

If you would like a shortcut and to save some time checkout our course LAUNCH YOUR WEBSITE IN A WEEKEND which gives you a beautiful template site to use as a starting point with a companion eCourse that shows you how to customize it to make it your own!

RECOMMENDED TOOLS

Uniregistry is the domain registrar we use and recommend.  With Uniregistry you aren’t required to pay for a hosting plan to do a simple redirect which saves some money. They also offer free domain privacy so your contact info associated with your domain name isn’t available for everyone to see.

We highly recommend SiteGround for web hosting if you decide you want to create your own website as a blog or to have as a companion to your corporate cookie-cutter provided website.  SiteGround hosting includes a lot of features like free SSL, one-click WordPress installation plus their support is top-notch!

If you are looking to design and build your own website the Divi WordPress theme by Elegant Themes is the way to go! Divi is more than just a theme, it’s a website building framework that makes it possible to design beautiful websites without ever touching a single line of code. It offers a very simple to use drag and drop page builder.  Try it risk free for 30 days.
